2:14 am - + pictures, thoughts on the blackberry phone, shouldn't have napped today +
why do people rave about blackberry phones? i own one, and it's nothing phenomenal. also, i can't be bothered to learn my own newly acquired number :cackles: i will never be a phone person.

8:22 pm - + two days! +
i'm just about ready for moving day on thursday.

on the whole it feels pretty good. ( i wish it had happened sooner! ) however. as relieving and liberating as it is, it also comes with the epiphany that my solitude will be very, very complete. i could be looking at not a few years, but decade upon decade of singledom. would i be surprised if i was still single, twenty years from now? Thirty? Forty? absolutely not. that scenario is very probable.

is it strength or weakness? the arguments for both sides are equally compelling.

i think one of the positive things about this situation is being very aware of the direction i'm heading in, and therefore having the foresight and the power to change it, should i need to.

but honestly, i don't feel like changing it now. i know that i'm no catch, but companionship is not worth having just for the sake of having it.

but maybe relying on my own wisdom won't cut it anymore? i met my future roommate, she's in her fifties and is pretty much a living example of the "starving artist" syndrome. that's a lot of life experience.

maybe i'll learn a few things.

8:57 am - + SIMS 3 screencaps plus minireview +
I'm running Sims 3 on a unibody macbook pro. The game runs quickly and loading time is minimal. There have been graphical overhauls, although most of it is lost on the Mac version of Sims 3. THERE IS NO ANTI-ALIASING AVAILABLE for the mac version of the sims. So essentially I have a 2000$ piece of equipment that doesn't run the game up to its full potential because the people at EA are EVIL CUNTS.

I would have loved to have wait for a properly programmed game ( for Mac's OpenGL ) rather than have slipshod 'jaggy' graphics. For fuck's sake, Sims 2 looked better on my eight-year old computer. There's just no excuse for this! Why pay 49$ for a game that looks better on PC? Why not release the game separately for Mac at a discounted price?

I'm also not a fan of the new store EA has set up. Basically, you have to fork over money to get "SimPoints", in order to buy more stuff for your game. Call me crazy, but it looks like they're wise to the amazing modding community for Sims2 ( who, by the way, create textures and graphics that are far superior than anything EA has ever come up with ) and want to put a stop to that. There's no bodyshop bundled with Sims 3, and all the mods you may have downloaded for Sims 2 won't work or be compatible with Sims 3. It's pure greed. Thankfully, the modding community will eventually get around these hurdles.

So that's the bad part.

The good part is that the game itself retains the fun of its predecessor, and has been expanded upon a great deal. Loading times are virtually eliminated and your sims are free to roam the neighborhood, shop, and visit other sims houses in a seamless, uninterrupted manner. This is definitely an important step up for the series.

The options for Sims interactions has also been expanded upon. Astrological signs no longer determine personality. You're now able to choose five specific personality traits out of a large selection. ( IE: 'Artist', 'Bookworm', 'Kleptomaniac', 'Daredevil', 'Loner', 'Good', 'Friendly', 'Charismatic', etc. ) You can mix and match these personality traits in order to concoct your Sim's overall personality. There are 63 personality traits to choose from.

For example, the five traits I chose for my character Blake: Bookworm, Artist, Never Nude, Hates the Outdoors, and Ambitious. So not only are you getting the mannerisms associated with the traits, you get to mix them together in order to achieve a more defined character. ( Never Nude is literal, by the way; Blake actually takes showers/baths with shorts on. )

This is particularly important, because one of the main attractions to the game ( in my experience ) has been the storytelling potential. The ability to take photographs and videocapture is probably one of the key attributes to the game that have made it into the franchise that it is today. ( the second key attribute is the ability to mod the game, but I've already complained about that )

Build mode has been improved, but it overall the same as in Sims 2. It is better organized and easier than ever to build houses. Same thing for buy mode.

Another major overhaul for the game is the music. It sounds orchestrated and it's lightyears better than the awful tunes from Sims 2. In my opinion.

Creating Sims, for the most part, hasn't changed much. There still isn't much you do about hair, except change colors and add highlights. The face-creation is a bit more natural, albeit somewhat limited in that you can't really create 'extreme' faces. But someone will eventually hack that, it's only a matter of time.

Anyway, enough of my rambling!

A few hilarious screencaps within )

5:12 pm - +animals, birthday, plus new apartment+
i'm moving into brooklyn July 1st! surprisingly, it's an easy move, as the only things i have to get are mostly 'decorative' ( and therefore optional )

-some sort of lamp ( i saw some in a thrift shop a few weekends ago )
-armoire
-decorative rug
-small air conditioning unit ( to fit in the window )
-some sort of shelving/bookcase unit for my tons of books
-small cafe-style table for eating

and that's pretty much it.

there's already a bed provided, and a couple of desks and a black leather couch. i have two rooms, and one of them is going to serve as an 'art' room for painting and other stuff.

i have to leave Shadow behind, so to offset the devastation i'm getting a siberian cat. that'll be about 800$ or so, if i decide to go through with it.

in the end, i expect to spend somewhere to the tune of $2000 for the initial move-in. it's a very generous amount and i'll probably spend way less.

once moved in, all i have to do is set up the internet service.

overall, very easy i think.

every single fucking day, my dad keeps trying to talk me out of it. the sheer selfishness of that act is almost overwhelming. i can't have my own life at home and he knows that.

11:10 am - +the model is wearing my anchor dress+

if you've been following my journal for a while, you may have noted that Delias has a thing for anchors.

i hate how the most basic of my designs are what tend to sell. ( and what stores prefer to buy )

ALSO:

America's unemployment rate is at 9.4 percent.

interestingly, the newshour report on PBS reported just last night that the number of people collecting unemployment has recently /decreased/. either the stats are contradictory, or we're going to see a big rise in the number of people collecting.

there's also the question of whether the stats are even accurate to begin with.

regarding the economy, there are too many contradictory reports to even get a sense of what's most accurate. the media is preaching "wary optimism", but just this week Ben Bernake warned the government about the clusterfuck of spending that has been going on lately. everyone knows it's completely unsustainable.

giraffes with bowties.

on a sidenote, don't ever shop at F21. the same t-shirt is at delias, sans the bowties. i encourage as many people as possible to boycott forever 21 not only because of their horrid track record regarding lawsuits/infringing on high-end designers work, but also due to their unfair treatment/working conditions for factory employees.

i felt like smashing all my characters together on a page, even while knowing that to do so would result in a massive, untalented rotting abscess of pure failure. it's quite embarrassing. anyway, i do plan to finish it, so perhaps tonight will see the end of it :D

3:50 pm - a smidgeon of art, plus a rant
have a silly cat:

and now a silly rant :D

when you like someone, you generally shouldn't talk about them whilst they're nearby ( and well within hearing range ). a guy i commute with regularly has been doing this to me since, ( seriously ) last july. (he's adorable, but i have zero interest ) now, a /sane/ person would be flattered if someone of the opposite ( or same :D ) sex thought they were 'hot' or some other modern and vague quantification of attractiveness. but me? naturally, i can only fall in love with those as ironically apathetic and cynical as myself. ( bummer. ) all in all, my level of interest in relationships has continued to flatline, almost to the point where i could honestly care less.

and that brings me to my point.

i want to look nice and dress nice ( i've transitioned nicely into a more sophisticated phase ) BUT i don't want the male attention that comes with it. simply walking around in midtown in a modest/humble skirt garners unwanted male attention. so there's this uneasy line between dressing ultra-feminine but wanting none of the bullshit that comes with it.

whilst attending college, i had this adorably naive idea that if i didn't /dress/ or /look/ like a girl, that i would not get male attention. ( hair was chopped, i tended towards more masculine styles, etc ) even THEN it was inescapable. i mean, what the fuck MEN?

and hence the 'silly' tag to this rant. i'm basically complaining about being liked. but hear me out. it's the superficiality that bothers me, the fact that worth is correlated with looks, the fact that relationships still revolve so much around 'attraction' which is often elusive and fleeting and fades rather quickly. that's why 50 year old women are obsessed with plastic surgery and botox, why the divorce rate keeps climbing, why people jump from one relationship to the other as if it's nothing and as if accumulated relationship failures/divorces count as 'experience'. ( i know there's significance in learning from past relationships, but after you've failed out of the 15th relationship or so? seriously. some people just never learn. )

i'm tired of people obsessing over beauty and physicality. and rating each other's worth based on such subjective terms. i'm sick of hearing "he's so hot" "she's so hot" "they're so hot" and so on.

i'm very bored with hot.

3:39 pm - public service announcement!
i have a general "moving out" date slated for june. i'll be renting for 1200K per month, so obviously finding a roommate would be optional. thought i might give this a shot on LJ first. does anyone need a room, or know anybody that does? ( i doubt anyone on my friends list is actually available, but WHO KNOWS. )

please don't make me use craigslist. D:
